Vila Franca do Rosário was a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Mafra, with an area of ​​6.21 km² and 871 inhabitants (2011). Density: 140.3 inhab/km².
It was extinguished (aggregated) by the administrative reorganization of 2012/2013, its territory being integrated into the Union of Parishes of Enxara do Bispo, Gradil and Vila Franca do Rosário.
Among the communities in Vila Franca do Rosário, the Sociedade Recreativa e Musical de Vila Franca do Rosário stands out, as it is the oldest. It was founded by Francisco Leonardo Nunes da Mota on February 22, 1896, initially taking the name “Fanfarra Progresso”. Initially governed by António dos Santos Dinis, it was then made up of eleven elements.
Later, Fanfarra Progresso, made up of 22 members and under the direction of maestro Melo, was renamed Sociedade Recreativa. It was later ruled by Joaquim Esteveira until 1942.

Until August 1, 1983, the activities of this group were interrupted, due to the lack of human and financial resources. It was then that a group of people from the former parish, including Maria da Nazaré Silva and Álvaro de Almeida, took the initiative to reactivate the music band, now called Sociedade Recreativa e Musical de Vila Franca do Rosário, which remains until the present date. It was maestro Luís Filipe Moreira who accepted the challenge of carrying out this task, having managed to train around 80 musicians throughout his sixteen years of dedication.

The band is currently in charge of conductor Aurélio Rua Ribeiro who, with his effort and dedication, continued this fabulous music band, which in this way has enriched countless parties and pilgrimages, moving in his performances to the most diverse country points.
