Moscavide was a relatively recent parish. It was created on March 23, 1928, through Decree No. 15 222, by dismembering the parishes of Santa Maria dos Olivais (Lisbon) and Sacavém (Loures), becoming part of the municipality of Loures.

It then covered the sites of Encarnação, Marcos and Beirolas, surrounding the so-called Estrada de Moscavide (from which it got its name), which continued towards Sacavém (curiously, however, the said road remained part of the parish of Olivais until today; the remaining part originated Avenida de Moscavide, which is today the busiest street in the town).

Later, on February 4, 1955, and for reasons not yet fully clarified (since the legal diploma is silent), arising from the delimitation between the municipalities of Loures and Lisbon, the region of Beirolas, where an Army barracks was based , moved to the space of the parish of Olivais, which gives the parish its strange geographical configuration in the eastern part. In 1996, a draft law authored by the PS foresaw the rectification of municipal boundaries and the reintegration of Beirolas into Moscavide [8], but the initiative, after being referred to the respective parliamentary committee for the administration of the territory, ended up expiring with the end of the legislature, having no sequel.

The name Moscavide seems to derive from the Arabic maskabat, which means «sowing», thus denoting the great antiquity of the site. There are known allusions in ancient times to the site of Busca-Vides, which eventually also contributed to the formation of the modern toponym. (by wikipedia)
